Former Northcote Brickworks - (No 93, 2018)
Brief look at former works in Separation St. There’s a much more detailed piece at 'Places'.
James Eunson – Eureka Casualty , Glass Merchant, Child Rescue (No 94, 2018)
Many early Northcote residents tried their luck on the goldfields. James did one better!
Joan Rosanove – Crocks & Crooks in Westgarth (No 95, 2018)
Amazing early barrister and solicitor not allowed to practice in the city. Set up in Westgarth and later helped to reform the divorce laws.
Ern Bainbridge & Le Tour de France 1928 (No 96, 2018)
Most people know about Opperman and cycling. Less well known is Ernie who hailed from both Northcote and Preston.
Peter McArthur & Cawdor Town (No 97, 2019)
McArthur lived at Arthurton (Arthurton Rd!) and had grand designs for a township to rival Westgarth and Northcote on the Hill.
Catherine Burdett & Exhibition Boot Co (No 98, 2019)
Another strong willed woman of Westgarth. Operated very successful boot company on Westgarth St. Early suffragette too.
History Ramble – Northcote Hill – West Side (No 99, 2019)
I have presented many walks over the years. This one encompasses Northcote Town Hall and beyond. Check out Tours on the top line.
Nehemiah Guthridge & Turret House (No 100, 2019)
The views west side of Northcote Hill were what people wanted. The Tower House overlooked the Merri Creek plain.
Richard Schlesinger – House that ‘Jack’ Built (No 101, 2019)
It was not Rucker’s Hill but Schlesinger’s! He built the once grand house on the hill. Rucker built his on the OTHER side of the Merri in Brunswick.

In 1866 the Red House (later Croxton Park Hotel) hosted a series of foot races. Luckily there was an eyewitness, newspaper reports and advertisements. A rate glimpse into life at a pub with various games of chance as well.
